 Abstract: Our world faces a massive challenge due to increasing global population on food, natural resources and the environment.  The world’s land-based sectors face major economic, environmental, and social challenges in the future. Science, design and business are the keys to responding to those challenges. Lincoln University has a strong base to build upon to support NZ and others internationally to respond to those challenges. Lincoln University’s motto is to “Feed the World, Protect the Future, and Live Well”.  A brief introduction of Lincoln University will be presented. Followed by three projects tackling these challenges will be presented. One on the ecological restoration of the Eyre-well forest, another on improving irrigation efficiency, and final a project related to improving our understanding of soil water repellency for improving irrigation and soil management.  The aim is to promote research that tackles the challenges we face globally.
